Downtime

Guess what I did on Monday? I sat down and read a book—an entire book! (I Am Malala, if you're wondering, and it's fabulous.) Do you know how long it's been since I read a whole book in one day? Yeah, I don't know either, but it was definitely before I started teaching Zumba. I knew that I'd have to give some things up when I started that wonderful adventure, but somewhere along the way I'd forgotten how nice it is to sometimes just sit and relax for longer than it takes to watch a movie. After I get done with work, between classes and choreography and more classes and more choreography—and then trying to fit in the rest of my life, like grocery shopping and laundry—I feel like I'm always running around barely getting things done. I actually like that a lot better than having to find things to do, but it was really nice to just sit on my couch in my jammies for a few hours, reading about an amazing person and snacking on M&Ms and peanut butter cups and Hot Tamales.

In a somewhat related note, I'm really, really not ready to go back to work tomorrow. Between having the flu (the serious flu, where you're so sore and feverish and weak that you don't leave your bed for a week—not at all a relaxing break) and Christmas vacation, I've been in to work a grand total of six hours since December 13. And I haven't missed it one little bit. I've rather enjoyed sleeping as much as I need to when I need to, getting a few things done around my house, choreographing, crashing random Zumba classes, going to movies, reading books, not wearing skirts, and just hanging out. I'm definitely not ready to start the rat race again. Where's that long-lost rich uncle when you need him?
