Hiking the Subway

For my "yay for being alive" celebration this year, I got to hike the Subway in Zion National Park. I was hoping for some time away from life at home, some adventure, some relaxation, and maybe even some clarity. I've said this before, but being in the world's beautiful places helps me feel God's love, and I've needed that lately. It worked again. The Subway is beautiful and amazing, and on top of that, I got to spend a day with my brother's family, including my awesome nephews. And I got to spend a lot of time with the two people I consider my sisters from another mister—my sister-in-law Megan and my friend Leslie—who both helped me remember that another way I feel God's love is through people I'm blessed to have in my life.

And now for some pictures. We had to start really, really early because there was a threat of thunderstorms later in the day, but the sun did eventually come up and I eventually woke up, just in time to enjoy the best part of the hike, including some freezing swims through the water, a few rappels, and a couple of miles of fabulous river walking.
