See, Richard is running in the Ogden Marathon in May, and he thought it would be a great idea to have all of his family run in the 5K on the same day. Mom thought that was a wonderful plan, so she recruited me and Jonathan. I had one caveat I was clinging to: I refused to buy socks. Well, yesterday I went shopping and found shoes I can run in that don't require socks, so I'm out of excuses. Carter's going to be running it with us, so I have the added incentive to get in good enough shape that my 7-year-old nephew doesn't have to watch me pass out or die on the side of the road. Who knows, maybe I'll discover a hidden love of running, and I'll get in such great shape that I'll do it the rest of my life. Right now, however, I'm just wondering what I've gotten myself into.

I Must Be Crazy
I have never enjoyed running, not even the slightest bit. Even in elementary school, when I was much more active and physically fit than I am now, I absolutely hated the mile-run days in gym. I could do push-ups and sit-ups, and I could play almost any sport well enough not to look like a complete fool (baseball's the one exception—that's just hopeless), but I've always thought that the only good reason to run is if something large and hairy is chasing you. Which makes it downright laughable that I've now signed up to run in a 5K. Yes, seriously. This is what family pressure will do to you. Well, family pressure and the fact that I've been ridiculously lazy this winter and I'm beginning to feel and look rather like a slug.

I'm wondering what you've gotten yourself into, too. Good luck with that. I'm just working up to running the "kids K" with Max, Ethan and baby #4 in a stroller. Why does that NOT sound like fun???
COOL! I think its even more cool you found shoes that don't require socks. You can do it. Ever since I was in high school and became a relatively physically fit jogger I wanted to run a race. Don't know why I didn't do it then! Well it was because I feared coming in last. Now that too many years have passed and pounds have been added I'm no where close to attempting a race, yet I now realize that last isn't a big deal. The important thing is doing it and feeling good about it. So I'm actually doing a 1 mile fun run/walk in May with the family. It has a 5 and 10 K going on as well and is called the Rat Race! I love that name!!
Hmm. I find it rather ironic that you posted about running a 5K right after your post of last wishes. Could they be related?
As I'm not a running and despise the sport in general, I wish you the best of luck. And I want to see these sockless running shoes.
