Happy Halloween

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, mainly because there's just so much to celebrate—Larry Mullen Jr.'s birthday, my very own special day, and Halloween itself, of course. Today was an especially good one. I got really excited when I got out of bed (that's very unusual for me, as anti-morning as I am) because we had an off-site training day for work, so I got to wear jeans and flip-flops instead of a skirt and yicky shoes. That'll make any day better. Then I had my traditional Halloween monster-cereal breakfast. I couldn't decide between Count Chocula and Franken Berry, so I combined them in one bowl. It was quite tasty. After a lovely day in the mountains, I picked up a pie and went to my mom's house, where we carved our pumpkins and then ate lots of chocolate while listening to Halloween music, playing some games, and handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters. Richard and Megan brought their boys over later so they could trick-or-treat at Grandma's house. (This is one of the main reasons I spend Halloween there, by the way. Well, that and the celebration pie. And the good company. OK, there are lots of reasons I spend Halloween there.) Carter made a great Darth Vader, Max was a fantastic Iron Man, and Ethan was the best pirate I've ever seen, at least for as long as he kept his costume on, which was about 30 seconds. I think Ethan had already had quite enough candy, plus he was very tired, so he didn't really stand still long enough even to get a good picture of him (hence the bluriness). They were very cute, and it was fun to see them. Kids on Halloween are the greatest, even if they do leave their parents totally exhausted (speaking as a true nonparent). And now I'm going to put on my Halloween pjs, listen to "Grim, Grinning Ghosts" one more time, and go to bed. What a fantastic day.
