Obsessed

It's very late and I'm up listening to a live stream of Irish radio. Why? Because they're debuting "Get on Your Boots," the new U2 song, at 8:00 a.m. Dublin time, of course. I don't care that it's 1:00 a.m. my time; it's been over four years since we've had new U2, and I'm just a bit excited. U2.com will be streaming the song all day tomorrow, but by staying up to the wee hours of the morning, I get to be part of a big worldwide community of U2 fans who are just as excited and just as crazy and just as obsessed as I am. Knowing that there are thousands of people out there in cyberspace who understand the hilarity of "It's a musical journey" makes me feel not quite so alone in my craziness. It means I might not be the only person in the world who made Miis for the band members on her brother's Wii. :) There are other people out there who count their first U2 concert as a life-changing moment. And I'm not the only one who truly believes that a song, especially a U2 song, can change the world, even if it's only the world inside yourself. It's good to be among friends.

And now all those Irish boys have to do is announce their tour dates so I can plan my trip to Ireland. It's driving me nuts!

Update: I've now listened to "Get on Your Boots" about five times, and it gets better with every listen. Bono was telling the truth about Edge this time: he really is on fire—and so is Larry. Favorite lyric: "Laughter is eternity if joy is real." It's funky, it's rock 'n' roll, and it should be played loud, very loud. Sweet!
